Jamaican sprinter, Usain Bolt landed a shock defeat in his last major championship appearance by US’s Justin Gatlin who claimed the 100 metres World Championship title in London.

The American who was booed throughout the race tonight due his previous doping bans won his second world 100m title, 12 years after his first to ruin eight-time Olympic champion Usain Bolt’s final individual race.

Bolt, who retires after next week’s 4x100m relay, could only come third behind American Gatlin, who clocked 9.92 seconds, and Christian Coleman (9.94).

Bolt crossed the line in 9.95. seconds to console himself with the Bronze medal.

It was the first time the 30-year-old had been beaten for four years and the first time he had ever been beaten in the semi-finals of a major championship.
